Research Article

A research article is not accepted when the article is likely to be accepted to JCIM or likewise. For the rest it needs to contain full citations, with primairy sources highly preferred, clear and detailed discussion of algorithms, shows what of that is available in which CDK classes, must contain code fragments that are compilable, and full programs must be downloadable.

Commentary

A commentary deals with CDK or chemo/bio/mol-informatics in general, does not require citations, not discussion of algorithms. If discussed algorithms are present in the CDK it must refer to the class that implements it.

Communication

A communication gives an update on ongoing research, has a short title, a few relevant citations, possibly reviews, optional code fragments to show proof of concept, which are not necessarily compilable (e.g. pseudo code), discusses the algorithm on a conceptual level, and does not need to disclose the full details of new algorithms.
